A selection of work from the artist's retreat, 'Cill Rialaig'. a remote western peninsular near the 'Ring of Kerry' Ireland. Most of the paintings are my response to the boat trip to the Isle of Skellig Michael, several miles into the Atlantic. A journey, taken in November, which scared the pants off me until I noticed the two fishermen were chatting and smoking together. I began to take in the drama, energy, fear and excitement of being tossed about as the proverbial cork on the Atlantic swell for three hours or more. This experience, on my 2nd day, dominated my painting and the next 20 days were spent on the edge of the Atlantic trying to capture, by sketching and paint, the beauty and fear.
There are a few calmer paintings from Cornwall and St Davids in Pembrokeshire.
